Hallo,
1958 begann Jin Records mit Künstlern wie Clint West, Tommy McLain & the Boogie Kings, Lil' Bob & The Lollipops, Warren Storm, Skip Stewart, Rockin' Sidney, Rod Bernard, Johnny Allan und anderen, die bedeutende Beiträge zur damals umstrittenen Swamp-Popmusik leisteten.
Das von Floyd Soileau gegründete Label JIN RECORDS, das tief im Herzen der Cajun-Region von Ville Platte/Louisiana ansässig war, debütierte im Jahr 1958. Benannt nach seiner Frau, spezialisierte sich JIN in den Anfangsjahren auf Swamp Pop – ein atmosphärisches Subgenre, das durch die Veröffentlichungen von Künstlern wie Rod Bernard, Jivin' Gene und Joe Barry geprägt wurde. Auch R&B-geprägter Rock'n'Roll kam nicht zu kurz: Der treibende Song “ Take A Ride“ von Red Smiley & The Vel-Tones (mit Clint West als Sänger) zählte zu den besten frühen Rock-Nummern des Labels. Smiley nahm zudem eine neue Version von Smiley Lewis’ “Jailbird“ auf, Phil Bo lieferte eine mitreißende, saxophonbetonte Version von “ She Wears My Ring“ ab, und Billy Lewis forderte zu “ Show Me How To Twist“ auf, untermalt von Boogie-Piano im Stil von Jerry Lee Lewis. Rod Bernards energiegeladener Titel “ Pardon Mr. Gordon“ war die B-Seite des großen Erfolgs “ This Should Go On Forever“ (1959), den JIN für den landesweiten Vertrieb an CHESS RECORDS übergab. „Floyd Soileau aus Ville Platte rief mich an und fragte: ‚Wollt ihr eine Platte aufnehmen? Ich gründe ein Plattenlabel!‘ Und ich sagte: ‚Klar!‘“, erinnerte sich der verstorbene Bernard, der seinen bekanntesten Song in J.D. Millers Studio in Crowley/Louisiana aufnahm: „Das war das einzige Studio, das ich hier in der Gegend kannte.“ “ Pardon Mr. Gordon“ begleitete Rod schon eine ganze Weile. „Ich habe den Song geschrieben, als ich im letzten Highschool-Jahr war“, erzählte er.
Sidney Simien (alias Rockin' Sidney) & His All Stars bereicherten den JIN-Katalog des Jahres 1958 mit dem ungestümen R&B-Titel “ She's My Morning Coffee“, während Mary McCoy & The Cyclones 1960 eine schwungvolle Neuinterpretation von “ Deep Elem Blues“ vorlegten und mit “ Double Trouble“ nachlegten.
Auch Mitte der 60er Jahre veröffentlichte JIN erstklassige Musik, etwa mit Johnnie Allans “ Let's Do It“ und “ You Got Me Whistling“; selbst 1972 hielten Prentice Thomas & The Broken Hearts die Flamme des echten Rock'n'Roll mit einer Neuaufnahme von “ Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On“ am Leben. Auch wenn der Slogan seines Labels – „Always in The Spotlite“ – meist kaum über den Süden Louisianas hinausreichte, legte Soileau bei JIN und dem Schwesterlabel Swallow bewundernswerterweise konsequent den Schwerpunkt auf lokale Klänge.

1958 begann Jin Records mit Künstlern wie Clint West, Tommy McLain & the Boogie Kings, Lil' Bob & The Lollipops, Warren Storm, Skip Stewart, Rockin' Sidney, Rod Bernard, Johnny Allan und anderen, die bedeutende Beiträge zur damals umstrittenen Swamp-Popmusik leisteten.
Das von Floyd Soileau gegründete Label JIN RECORDS, das tief im Herzen der Cajun-Region von Ville Platte/Louisiana ansässig war, debütierte im Jahr 1958. Benannt nach seiner Frau, spezialisierte sich JIN in den Anfangsjahren auf Swamp Pop – ein atmosphärisches Subgenre, das durch die Veröffentlichungen von Künstlern wie Rod Bernard, Jivin' Gene und Joe Barry geprägt wurde. Auch R&B-geprägter Rock'n'Roll kam nicht zu kurz: Der treibende Song “ Take A Ride“ von Red Smiley & The Vel-Tones (mit Clint West als Sänger) zählte zu den besten frühen Rock-Nummern des Labels. Smiley nahm zudem eine neue Version von Smiley Lewis’ “Jailbird“ auf, Phil Bo lieferte eine mitreißende, saxophonbetonte Version von “ She Wears My Ring“ ab, und Billy Lewis forderte zu “ Show Me How To Twist“ auf, untermalt von Boogie-Piano im Stil von Jerry Lee Lewis. Rod Bernards energiegeladener Titel “ Pardon Mr. Gordon“ war die B-Seite des großen Erfolgs “ This Should Go On Forever“ (1959), den JIN für den landesweiten Vertrieb an CHESS RECORDS übergab. „Floyd Soileau aus Ville Platte rief mich an und fragte: ‚Wollt ihr eine Platte aufnehmen? Ich gründe ein Plattenlabel!‘ Und ich sagte: ‚Klar!‘“, erinnerte sich der verstorbene Bernard, der seinen bekanntesten Song in J.D. Millers Studio in Crowley/Louisiana aufnahm: „Das war das einzige Studio, das ich hier in der Gegend kannte.“ “ Pardon Mr. Gordon“ begleitete Rod schon eine ganze Weile. „Ich habe den Song geschrieben, als ich im letzten Highschool-Jahr war“, erzählte er.
Sidney Simien (alias Rockin' Sidney) & His All Stars bereicherten den JIN-Katalog des Jahres 1958 mit dem ungestümen R&B-Titel “ She's My Morning Coffee“, während Mary McCoy & The Cyclones 1960 eine schwungvolle Neuinterpretation von “ Deep Elem Blues“ vorlegten und mit “ Double Trouble“ nachlegten.
Auch Mitte der 60er Jahre veröffentlichte JIN erstklassige Musik, etwa mit Johnnie Allans “ Let's Do It“ und “ You Got Me Whistling“; selbst 1972 hielten Prentice Thomas & The Broken Hearts die Flamme des echten Rock'n'Roll mit einer Neuaufnahme von “ Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On“ am Leben. Auch wenn der Slogan seines Labels – „Always in The Spotlite“ – meist kaum über den Süden Louisianas hinausreichte, legte Soileau bei JIN und dem Schwesterlabel Swallow bewundernswerterweise konsequent den Schwerpunkt auf lokale Klänge.
