Der Sänger und Songwriter Johnny Williams wurde am 19. Oktober 1938 in Port Allen, Louisiana als John Williams geboren und verstarb am 4. März 1972, erst 33-jährig, in New Orleans, Louisiana, als er einen Kampf schlichten wollte und dabei ins Herz gestochen wurde. Er war auch ein Mardi Grass Indianer und wegen seiner Narbe im Gesicht hatte er den Spitznamen “Scarface“ John. Sein Lebensweg war mehr als bizarr. Seine Mutter Mary Palmer, die bei seiner Geburt erst 16 Jahre alt war, wurde gezwungen, ihn an Adelle Gatlin Williams zu verschenken, die ihn mit ihrem Gatten Lucius aufzog. Adelle spielte selbst Gitarre und Klavier und sang und trimmte John auf Gesang. Als er 18 Jahre alt war, holte ihn Huey Smith als Lead- und Back-up-Sänger zu seinen Clowns.
