Denver Duke aus Svannah, Tennesse, und Jeffery Null aus Shiloh National Park, ebenfalls Tennesee, traten anfang der Fünfzigerjahre beim Radiosender WVOW in Logan, West Virginia, gemeinsam auf. 1954 machten sie bei BALKAN in Chicago ihre ersten Einspielungen. Der Country-Sänger Howard Vokes wurde ihr Manager und brachte sie bei BLUE HEN Records unter. Da Denver Duke eine sehr hohe Stimme hatte wurden sie anfangs als der Mann (auch die Männer) mit der Frauen-Stimme vermarktet.
