Ich wollte bereits mit einer Kurz-Bio für den 1931 in Florida geborenen DJ und Sänger Randy Lee beginnen, als ich plötzlich Dieter's Einwand sah und das ließ mir natürlich keine Ruhe. Die Ruhelosigkeit hat sich aber gelohnt, denn ich konnte Dieter's Aussage mit Hilfe von Billboard so gut wie bestätigen.
Im Billboard vom 9. Jänner 1961 kann man in der Rubrik "DISCOURSE" auf Seite 44 folgendes lesen:
LeRoy Homes, general manager of Everest Records, is beaming with Joy over the enthusiatic acceptance of one of their new artists ans his latest release. The artist is Randy Lee, a 20-year-old guitar-playing singer from Chattanooga, and the song is a swingin' rendition of the standard, Did You Ever See A Dream Walking. The session was cut at the Bradley Studios in Nashville. Recently released from a tenure in the U. S. Army, Randy's career is under the guidance of Jim Denny.
Der Jahrgang 1940 ist für mich damit gesichert. Die Verbindung zu SPANN ist aufgrund der vielen Daten die es darüber gibt auch ziemlich sicher. Es gibt einige Hinweise, dass er nach EVEREST bei PHILIPS unterschrieb, was auch diesen Zusammenhang herstellt. Die Verbindung zu CUB ist noch nicht definitiv aber höchstwahrscheinlich.
