Hallo,
Polydor 66 901
Kathy Zee
A: Buzzin
B: Crackerjack
Hier einige Infos aus dem www:
Kathy Zee was born Kathleen Ann Zaleski in Lawrenceville, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA, in 1946. She started her musical career early, at the age of four. Brother Jimmy already was singing at benefits and talent shows, and Kathy thought she would like to be part of the action. Jimmy happened to be singing at a benefit show for the Leukemia foundation at a local high school, and she saw her chance. She was in the typical "Four Year Old" mode, carrying on about wanting to sing at the show. Mom and the organizers gave in and she went on to sing "Some Of These Days". The crowd loved her and the Harmony Wildcats (Kathy and Jimmy) were born. The played local benefit shows, record hops, talent contests, radio and TV,and were regulars on the Eva Jackson and Virginia O'Donnell show. Kathy Zee was the youngest mandolin player in Pittsburgh, at four years old! Kathy had a manager by the name of Elmer Willett, and he assisted her with a voice coach and was instrumental in getting a record deal with Laurie records, which released her first record "Buzzin" in the US.
A few months before the USA release of Buzzin, it was issued in Germany on the Polydor label, and was number 1 in Hamburg for 3 straight weeks. This was her first record and was backed with another uptempo side called Crackerjack. She was 13 years old at the time it was cut, and "Buzzin" became a local smash in the Pittsburgh area. Brother Jimmy not only accompanied Kathy on "Buzzin", but was heard and had label credit on her follow-up called"Santa Claus Rock And Roll" backed with "Your Name, Your Name". This was released on their manager's label named after himself called Willett. The record did well locally but did not enjoy the same promotional power that a national company like Laurie could provide. The duo continued performing in the Pittsburgh area and were also a part of the Ted Mack Amateur hour in which Kathy still has fond memories.
Kathy and Jimmy went from Pittsburgh to Hollywood and were signed with the Johnny Robinson agency, and started working right away. They performed in California for a while, and then spent many years in Reno playing various venues. When they were ready for a change, they split up and Kathy joined Abbey Neal and the Ranch girls. She played rhythm guitar and sang. Neal suffered a heart attack, and Kathy moved on to a group called the Diplomats. She toured all over the country with them, playing electric bass and vocals, and had a jazz based sound. When she left the Diplomats, she retired and concentrated on raising a family. She currently has started singing again, and is active with her church choir.
