DIANA DECKER

Hallo,
hier möchte ich noch eine weitere Interpretin des Titels “Willie Can“ vorstellen, die auch in Gerds Cover-Liste aufscheint:

DIANA DECKER (geb. Isabella Charlotte Diana Decker, * 09. Januar 1925, + 04. Januar 2019) war eine amerikanische Schauspielerin, Sängerin und Fernsehpersönlichkeit, die von den 1940 er bis in die frühen 1960 er Jahre beliebt war.
Decker wurde als Tochter eines amerikanischen Vaters und einer britischen Mutter in Hollywood/Kalifornien geboren. Im Alter von vier Jahren zog sie mit ihrer Mutter nach Großbritannien. Decker heiratete 1948 den australischen Schauspieler und Musiker Eden Landeryou, alias Eddy Eden (* 1900, + 1987).

Ihr erster Filmauftritt war bereits 1943. Decker hatte auch eine Karriere als Musikerin. Ihre Aufnahme von “Poppa Piccolino“, einer Version des italienischen Songs “Papaveri e papere“ von Vittorio Mascheroni mit englischen Wörtern von Robert Musel, erreichte im Herbst 1953 # 2 der britischen Single-Charts.

Eine Reihe nachfolgender Singles bis 1956 konnte jedoch nicht gechartert werden.

Deckers Aufnahmen wurden 2002 auf der CD "The Complete Diana Decker" neu aufgelegt.

Decker hatte in den 1960 er Jahren nur wenige Credits, obwohl sie eine Nebenrolle in Stanley Kubricks “Lolita“-Film von 1962 spielte. Ihr letzter Filmauftritt war 1965: eine atypische Rolle im Horrorfilm “Devils of Darkness“.

Im Jahr 2002 wurde berichtet, dass Decker ruhig in London lebte. Sie starb dort im Januar 2019 im Alter von 93 Jahren.

Für eine ausführliche ”Bio” hat bereits Heino gesorgt (#1). Mir bleibt nur noch darauf hinzuweisen, dass Diana Decker die erste englischsprachige Version des italienischen Schlagers ”Papaveri e papere” als ”Poppa Piccolino” veröffentlichte und damit die englischen Charts bis auf Platz zwei hochkletterte. Erst knapp danach nahmen sich auch andere Interpreten in Großbritannien und den USA der englischsprachigen Cover-Version an und im gleichen Zeitraum brachte auch Peter Alexander mit Leila Negra “Die süßesten Früchte“ als deutschsprachige Version auf den Markt.
