Sound of the Surf - die unendliche Geschichte

Bin gerade über einen Link auf dieses 20-minütige Interview gestoßen.
Die Sendung heißt "Celebrating ACT2", Art Kirsch und John Coleman
interviewen Tom Duncan, dem Produzenten von "Sound Of The Surf".
Einige Aussagen wie "Rock and Roll Dokumentationen zeigen lediglich Buddy Holly
und springen dann direkt zu den Beatles" verursachen wieder Stirnrunzeln bei mir.
Die Schwierigkeiten bei der Herstellung einer Dokumentation werden umfangreich
erläutert, zu guten letzt darf natürlich auch nicht der Aufruf zur Spende fehlen.
Vor einigen Tagen waren von den 55000 benötigten Euros erst rund 15.000 € gespendet
worden. Falls das Geld nicht zusammen kommt, wird das Projekt im Archiv verschwinden.
Ich glaube, es gibt in Amerika und anderswo genügend wohlhabende Menschen (z.B. Musiker
oder Sänger, die selbst auchvon Plattenproduktionen und Verkäufen gut leben konnten),
die sich finanziell daran beteiligen können.

Ich habe bei John Blair angefragt wegen der Veröffentlichung der DVD und Verfügbarkeit.
Hier ist seine (leider negative) Antwort:
As for "Sound of The Surf," the director tells me that he's sending out several hundred copies in June to ONLY those people who supported his crowd-funding campaign on Indie A Go-Go. I'm not sure about releases to the general public. I think he's trying to find distribution right now for that purpose. If you know of any DVD distributors for Europe, please let me know.

If I can, I'll have him press more DVDs that he intends to send out and try to sell some copies directly from my website and social media. I'll let you know if that happens. However, be advised that if he presses DVDs in the NTSC format, it won't play on a PAL player. If he presses DVDs for all areas, then it should be OK.

Bei SG101 gab es den Hinweis, daß Tom Duncon bei einer Motorrad Fahrt mit Freunden einen Herzinfarkt
erlitten hat an dem er verstarb. Dusty Watsonhatte wohl zuvor auf seiner FB Seite darüber berichtet.

A heart attack on 9/25 took Tom Duncan. I haven't posted anything about this until now out of respect for the situation, and for what his wife, Isariya, and close friends are having to deal with at the moment. Now that the news is out there, however....

Completing "Sound of the Surf" is heavy on my mind now. It's been 15 years since Tom and I started on this adventure. There have been delays and roadblocks along the way that a major film studio probably would not have had to deal with. That's all in the past, however. Tom left us with an almost finished film and I know he would have wanted it shepherded into a final product. It was his strongest creative achievement, one that needs to be honored.

I will be doing my best to see this to fruition in the weeks ahead. Right now, everything is on hold until the situation becomes a little more calm on the part of those closest to him and the film's current status can be audited. A Celebration of Life is planned for the near future.

If you had been discussing anything with Tom...anything...please PM me with the details. At this point, I know nothing about where Tom stood with his Indiegogo campaign or promises he may have made to those who contributed funding over the last several months to complete the film.

Thanks for your understanding, continued patience,and positive thoughts. As I've stated all along, despite all the delays, "Sound of the Surf" WILL get finished. And, if I have any say so in the matter, it will be finished as close as possible to Tom's vision of what he wanted this film to be and to accomplish.

I've been getting a number of Facebook PMs lately asking about "Sound of The Surf," so I thought I'd post this update, although there's not much to relate just yet.

After giving Tom's wife as much time as possible to get on the backside of this, we've finally connected. A meeting is scheduled for next week. Tom had managed to get the film into a "locked edit" state, which is good...95% of the way home. The soundtrack is not locked at this point, so there is still some work to do on that. I'm hoping that, once we have a pretty good idea of where Tom left off and what still needs to be done to arrive at a final DVD product, we can forge ahead as quickly as possible.

No promises except that I will try hard to honor Tom's vision for this film and do what I can to get it finished!!
