Loraine Pettus Knotts, of Wilmington, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the age of 83.
She was a member of Winter Park Baptist Church where her passion was singing in the church choir. She was the sweetest lady you ever met and never passed up the opportunity to share a hug. Her hugs will be greatly missed.
She was born in Charleston, W.V. and was preceded in death by the love of her life, Donald S. Knotts and parents, Marvin and Susie (Flint) Haynes.
She is survived by her devoted children, Robin Knotts (Sara), of Currie, Alan Knotts (Opal), of Leland, Steve Knotts (Michele), of Leland and Ruth Ferguson (David), of Evans, Ga.; grandchildren, Brian, Kris, Kraig, Brittney and Matthew Knotts and Hannah and Rachel Ferguson; and six great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to her four wonderful caregivers, Carolyn Tew, Angela Bridges, Beverly Jacobs and Jennifer Hardee. A special thank-you to her hospice nurse, Tonya Brown and her beloved doctor, James McCabe.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Winter Park Baptist Church, 4700 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington. Interment will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens
