Though I'm not seeing much "news" of this, I've heard New York session guitarist Vinnie Bell has passed away (October 3, 2019). He was best "known" or appreciated in the Lounge/Exotica music circles I traveled in during the '90s on both coasts. I'd always dug the 1962 Ramrods rock instrumental hit "Ghost Riders in the Sky," never knew it was Vinnie's band. Mostly it was his invention and playing of the unique "Underwater Guitar Sound" that stood out. You heard it on the "Barbarella" soundtrack, tons of '60s TV commercials, The Shangri Las' "Sweet Sounds of Summer," it's more of a ubiquitous thing... he had it trademarked so that only he could play it on a session! Not so with his other invention the Electric Sitar, which we love in a lotta places. Post your favorite Vinnie here. R.I.P., pasan....
