Kurz-Bio:
Der Country & Western-Songwriter, Musiker (Gesang, Geige), Radiomoderator und Bandleader etc. Curley Williams wurde am 3. Juni 1913 in Cairo, Georgia, als Dock Williams geboren und verstarb am 5. September 1970, erst 57-jährig, in Montgomery, Alabama. Um 1940 debütierte er beim Radiosender WPAX in Thomasville, Georgia, mit der Band The Santa Fe Trail Riders und Ende 1942 bekam er das Angebot, sich der Besetzung der Grand Ole Opry anzuschließen. Da es zu dieser Zeit bereits einen populären Countrymusiker und Bandleader namens Andrew John Smik gab, den sein Bühnenname Doc Williams war, schlug ihm George D. Hay, ein Gründungsmitglied der Grand Ole Opry, vor, seinen Namen Dock auf Curley zu ändern und seiner Band, die überwiegend aus Mitgliedern aus Georgia bestand, The Georgia Peach Pickers zu nennen. 1943 einigte man sich mit COLUMBIA als Curley Williams And His Georgia Peach Pickers auf einen Plattenvertrag, der bis in die Fünfzigerjahre gültig war und die „Pickers" waren die erste Band, die die Steel-Gitarre auf die Opry-Bühne brachten. Im Jahre 1953 ging er zum Sender WSFA in Montgomery, Alabama. In Montgomery betrieb er unter anderem auch einen Country Nachtclub namens "The Spur" und lebte dort bis zu seinem Tode im Jahre 1970.
Mit seiner wohl bekanntesten Komposition „Half As Much“ konnte er zwar nicht selbst reüssieren, aber Hank Williams erreichte damit in den C & W-Charts den ersten und Rosemary Clooney in den Pop-Charts den zweiten Platz.
