BROTHER BONES

Kurz-Bio:
Der Novelty-Musiker Brother Bones wurde am 4. Oktober 1902 in Montgomery, Alabama, als Freeman Davis geboren und verstarb am 14. Juni 1974, erst 71-jährig, in Long Beach, Kalifornien.
Als öffentlicher Schuhputzer vor diversen Frisörläden wurde er als "Whistling Sam" bekannt, da er bei seiner Arbeit immer pfiff und mit Schuhbürste und Schuhputztuch und anderen Utensilien diverse Rhythmen produzierte. Er perfektionierte auch das Knochenspiel (Erzeugung von Rhythmen mit Knochen etc.), indem er anstatt der üblichen zwei, jeweils vier Knochen in jeder Hand hielt. Durch Zufall wurde er vom Präsidenten von TEMPO-Records in einem China-Restaurant in Los Angeles entdeckt, wo er gerade aufspielte. Besonders berühmt wurde seine Version von "Sweet Georgia Brown", da sie das Basketball-Team der berühmten Harlem Globetrotters seit 1952 als ihre "Kennmelodie" verwendete. Brother Bones selbst erreichte kaum einen spürbaren Bekanntheitsgrad ausserhalb von Los Angeles und Umgebung.
