Der Posaunist und Bandleader Ian Menzies wurde am 3. März 1932 in Glasgow, Schottland, als Ian Melville Menzies geboren und verstarb am 25. November 2001 in seinem Haus in Burnaby, British Columbia, Kanada, an einem Hirntumor.
1953 kam er zu den Clyde Valley Stompers und 1954 übernahm er bereits deren Führung, da der Leader Jim McHarg nach Kanada auswanderte.
