Kurz-Bio:
Der Sänger, Pianist und populäre Bandleader Les Welch wurde am 6. August 1925 in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, geboren und etwa 1928 wanderte seine Familie nach Australien aus wo er aufwuchs und später eine sehr populärere Person in der australischen Musikbranche wurde. Am 1. September 2014 verstarb er in Sydney, New South Wales, Australien. Er brachte sich autodidaktisch das Klavierspiel bei und spielte bereits in den Vierzigerjahren Blues auf Partys und in diversen Nachtclubs und wurde bald für den Rundfunk entdeckt. 1948 wurde er bei einem Konzert in der Sydney Town Hall zum King of Swing gewählt. 1949 unterschrieb er bei der Australian Record Company (ARC) einen Vertrag auf Lebenszeit und wurde bei FESTIVAL in Sydney neben seinen Einspielungen als Künstler (Bandleader, Sänger etc.) auch als Repertoire-Manager eingesetzt.
