Karl & Harty were real mountain boys and this is reflected in their songs, often written by themselves. Karl wrote a hymn about his homestate "Kentucky" under this same title plus other standards like "I'm Here To Get My Baby Out Of Jail" and "The Prisoner's Dream" along with Harty plus several more. Karl plays mandolin, Harty guitar, but you will hear fiddle as well on two tracks. Maybe it was played by Alan Crockett of "The Prairie Ramblers". Their string band was "The Cumberland Ridge Runners" formed by John Lair who was the founder of The Renfro Valley Barn Dance. Other members were Red Foley (bass), Linda Parker (guitar) and Slim Miller (fiddler). This CD spans their most successful recording period from 1934 to 1947 when they recorded for Columbia and related labels as well as for Capitol Records. Like the CD title tells you: The boys were a popular act on the WLS Barn Dance of Chicago, later also of WJJD Chicago.
