Clinton trat unterdessen der US-Luftwaffe bei und trat am 04. Februar 1943 als Leutnant ein. Nach Abschluss der Ausbildung zum Flugoffizier in Greenville, MS, wurde er Fluglehrer für AT-6- und B-25-Flugzeuge. Im Juni 1945 wurde er an das China-Burma-India Theater versetzt und war Co-Pilot eines C-46-Flugzeugs namens “The Hump“.
Nach seiner Entlassung im Jahr 1946 gab es noch einige Aufnahmen für das Decca-Label.

Er machte auch weitere Platten, darunter “Larry Clinton in Hi-Fi“, ein Album aus dem Jahr 1956, das seine Hits in High-Fidelity nachbildete, jedoch mit einer Studioband und Helen Ward als Sängerin. „Das weiß ich“, sagte Wain. „Nun, er hat immer noch herumgearbeitet.“ Ohne Respekt vor Ward denke ich, dass die logische und vorzuziehende Wahl für die Sängerin auf dieser LP Bea Wain hätte sein sollen. „Ich erzähle dir eine lustige Geschichte“, bot sie an. „Während dieser Zeit waren Andre und ich in New York auf Sendung, spielten Platten (wir waren Discjockeys) und ich sang natürlich live. Eine andere Art Inspiration für ein Clinton-Original kam von einem Baseballspieler. „Ja, Carl Hubbel. Er war … bei den Giants – er war ein Pitcher“, erinnerte sie sich. Und offensichtlich warf er einen Pitch, den er “The Dipsy Doo“ oder “The Dipsy“ oder so ähnlich nannte. Larry war ein Fan von ihm und er nannte [einen Song] “The Dipsy Doodle“, der sehr populär wurde.
Bea Wain erinnerte sich „Tommy Dorsey nahm “The Dipsy Doodle“ auf, und wir haben es niemals getan.“ Dorsey war wie Clinton bei Victor unter Vertrag, und da er einer der großen Bandleader war, überließ ihm das Label die erste Auswahl an Songs. Daher konnten Clinton und Wain lediglich eine nichtkommerzielle Aufnahme davon für Associated Transcriptions machen.
Tommy Dorsey und sein Orchester waren die ersten, die 1937 seine klassische Komposition “The Dipsy Doodle“ mit Edythe Wright am Gesang aufnahmen und veröffentlichten.

Seine Komposition “Calypso Melody“ war 1957 ein Charthit für Bandleader und Komponist David Rose bei M-G-M Records, wurde ein Millionenseller und erhielt eine Goldene Schallplatte. Die Single erreichte # 25 bei Music Vendor, # 33 bei Cash Box und # 42 bei Billboard.
Clinton gab die Musik etwa 1961 auf und lebte im Ruhestand, bis er im Alter von 75 Jahren an Krebs starb.
„Ich weiß nicht, wie gerne Larry in Erinnerung bleiben würde“, bemerkte Bea Wain „Spielen Sie einfach seine Musik und lieben Sie seine Musik.“
