Der Countrymusiker und Songwriter Elton Britt wurde am 27. Juni 1913 in Zack, Arkansas, als James Elton Baker geboren und verstarb am 22. Juni 1972 in einem Krankenhaus in McConnelsburg, Pennsylvania, an einem am Vortag erlittenen Herzinfarkt.
Seine musikalische Karriere begann bereits am Beginn der Dreißigerjahre, als er bei den Beverly Hill Billies für einen vakanten Musiker einspringen durfte. Bald war er dann selbst festes Mitglied dieser Formation und bereits 1933 wurde seine erste Platte auf CONQUEROR veröffentlicht.
