Der Bluesgitarrist und Sänger Gene Phillips wurde am 25. Juli 1915 in Saint Louis, Missouri, als Eugen Floyd Phillips geboren und verstarb am 10. Jänner 1990, erst 74-jährig, in Lakewood, Los Angeles County, Kalifornien. Neben seinen Solo-Einspielungen war er auch bei vielen Aufnahmen ungenannt als Gitarrist tätig.
