Kurz-Bio:
Der Jazzpianist, Keyboarder, Jazzkomponist und Bandleader Ramsey Lewis wurde am 27. Mai 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, als Ramsey Emmanuel Lewis Jr. geboren und verstarb am 12. September 2022 ebenda. Lewis erhielt bereits mit vier Jahren klassischen Klavierunterricht und mit fünfzehn wurde er Mitglied einer Jazzband, aus der später mit dem Kontrabassisten Eldee Young und dem Schlagzeuger Isaac “Red“ Holt das Ramsey Lewis Trio hervorging. Im April 1957 gab es beim CHESS-Sublabel ARGO bereits ihre erste, und im Mai 1958 ihre zweite LP, die beide noch als “Ramsey Lewis And His Gentlemen Of Swing“ liefen (ARGO LP-611 und LP-627). Ab ihrer ersten Single im Juli 1958 waren sie dann bereits das Ramsey Lewis Trio und dabei blieb es für längere Zeit.
