CHARLIE VENTURA

In den 1940 er Jahren spielte Ventura Saxophon für die Bands von Gene Krupa und Teddy Powell. 1945 wurde er von der Zeitschrift ‘DownBeat‘ zum besten Tenorsaxophonisten gekürt. Er leitete eine Band, zu der Conte Candoli, Bennie Green, Boots Mussulli, Ed Shaughnessy, Jackie Cain und Roy Kral gehörten.

In den 1940 er und 1950 er Jahren leitete er Big Bands und gründete mit Buddy Rich, Marty Napoleon und Chubby Jackson die Big Four. In den 1960 er Jahren war er Sideman bei Krupa und arbeitete dann in Las Vegas mit dem Komiker Jackie Gleason.

1992 starb er an Lungenkrebs.
