May of 1961…Donnie and The Dreamers chart their first of 2 Billboard Hot 100 hit records. COUNT EVERY STAR…begins its run on the Billboard chart, climbing to #35 during its 10 week stay on the Hot 100. The Italian-American doo-wop group from the Bronx, New York includes members, Louis “Donnie” Burgio, Andy Catalano, Frank Furstaci and Pete Vecchirarelli. COUNT EVERY STAR was issued on Whale Records. The song was a hit in 1950 for the R&B group, The Ravens. Donnie and The Dreamers updated version became a big radio hit and was in regular radio rotation…getting much air-play.
Two months later they followed-up with another past hit, this time by The Harptones and their recording of MY MEMORIES OF YOU. Donnie and The Dreamers version was up-tempo and was a pleasent doo-wop recording. The single did not receive the same success as COUNT EVERY STAR and remained on the Hot 100 for just 3 weeks, charting at #79. Although there were other singles, the group would not chart another Hot 100 single.
