Josephine Miles, * 1900 in Summerville/South Carolina, + in Kansas City, zu einem unbekannten Zeitpunkt in den 1950er-1960er Jahren in an automobile accident, She was one of the classic female blues singers popular in the 1920s.

Sie nahm zwischen 1922 und 1925 auf, mit einer letzten Session christlicher Lieder im Jahr 1928, die als Missionary Josephine Miles (?) veröffentlicht wurde. Aliasse: Mazie Green

Josie Miles war eine amerikanische Varieté- und Bluessängerin. Sie war eine der klassischen Blues-Sängerinnen, die in den 1920 er Jahren populär waren. In den frühen 1920 er Jahren arbeitete sie in New York City, wo sie in Eubie Blake und Noble Sissles musikalischer Komödie “Shuffle Along“ auftrat.

1922 machte Miles ihre ersten Aufnahmen für die Black Swan Company. Später nahm sie für die Labels Gennett, Ajax, Edison und Banner Records auf.

1923 tourte sie mit den Black Swan Troubadours durch afroamerikanische Theaterkreise und trat in New York City in James P. Johnsons Revue “Runnin' Wild“ am Colonial Theatre auf. Im selben Jahr trat sie auch im WDT-Radio in New York City auf.

Der Blues-Autor Steve Tracy beschrieb Miles als „eine leichte, aber kraftvolle Darbietung, die nicht niederschmetternd, aber dennoch überzeugend war.“

Ihre letzten Aufnahmen stammen aus dem Jahr 1925.

Nach den frühen 1930 er Jahren widmete sie sich kirchlichen Aktivitäten in Kansas City/Missouri, wo sie sich niedergelassen hatte.

1928 nahm ein Prediger, der manchmal als Missionarin Josephine Miles und manchmal als Evangelistin Mary Flowers bezeichnet wurde, sechs Seiten feuriger Predigten für das Label Gennett auf. Es ist nicht bekannt, ob diese Aufnahmen Josie Miles zuzuschreiben sind. Die Blues-Historiker Paul Oliver und Chris Smith glauben, dass die akustischen Beweise diese Identifizierung nicht stützen.
