Wie haeufig habe ich "Tiger A GoGo" zum ersten Mal inder Jim Pewter Radio
Sendung gehoert und war froh, als ich dann irgendwann in den 1970igern
die englische Single fand.
In seinem Buch "Surf Music U.S.A."CM books, Australien, Juni 2006 schreibt
Stephen McParland auf Seite 215 - 216 folgendes zu dieser Platte:
"Wilkin also managed to achieve some national success in partnership with Ronny & The Daytonas´collaborator Buzz Cason when the duo´s "Tiger-A-Go-Go" (AMY 924)
began to pick up some regional airplay, particularly in Miami and Colorado where the two
major stations WQAM and KIMM were operating under the "Tiger Radio" handle!
Unfortunately the single (b/w the instrumental Bay City) was never able to break nationally,
just failing to crack the Billboard Top 100 during May 1965.
`We recorded a lot (of material) at Bill Justis´ studio`, explained Wilkin, `and we just decided to
put that one out. We simply had the studio opportunities. It simply hit #1 in places like
Miami and Denver!`(John"Bucky" Wilkin interview with Brian Gari, California Music, issue #71, 1987)
Whereas the highly melodious surf music styled instrumental Bay City highlighted Wilkin´s
capabilities as a guitarist, the more uptempo Tiger-A-Go-Go was a rollicking vocal ode to the nightclub
of the same name located at the San Francisco airport. Both Wilkins and Cason handled
the vocals - hence the group name of Buzz And Bucky that graced the single -
while the instrumentation followed a very Ronny And The Daytonas "G.T.O." style, particularly the instrumental break."
1997 wurde auf Sundazed SC 11046 eine CD namens
G.T.O. - Ronny And The Daytonas Best Of Mala Recordings
herausgebracht, die 20 Titel enthaelt, darunter auch Tiger-A-Go-Go.
Die Aufnahmen sind in sehr guter Qualitaet, im Gegensatz zu der CD "Landlocked" auf Arista aus 1992.
